Deep Clean vs Regular Clean: What's the Difference?
One goes deep once, the other keeps you on top of it every week. Here's exactly what's included in each, how long they take, and which one your home actually needs.
People book the wrong type of clean all the time. Some ask for a regular clean when they really need a deep one, and end up disappointed because the cleaner couldn't perform miracles in two hours. Others pay for a deep clean when a standard tidy would have been fine. Here's a straight comparison so you get the right one first time.
The short answer
A regular clean is maintenance. It keeps a home that's already in decent condition looking tidy: hoovering, dusting, wiping down bathrooms and kitchens, cleaning the surfaces you see.
A deep clean is a reset. It's a one-off intensive job that gets into the places a regular clean skips: inside cupboards, behind furniture, oven interiors, radiators, skirting boards, extractor hoods, and every fiddly corner where dust has built up over months.
Most people should book a deep clean once or twice a year, then keep up with regular cleans in between.

What's included in a deep clean?
A deep clean covers everything in a regular clean, PLUS all the areas that rarely get attention. Standard time: 5 to 8 hours for a 3-bed home, sometimes over two visits.

- Oven interior fully degreased, including racks and door glass
- Extractor hood and filters degreased
- Fridge emptied, defrosted and cleaned inside and out
- Freezer defrosted and cleaned
- Inside every cupboard wiped, contents removed and replaced
- Tops of cupboards degreased (where dust and grease collect)
- Behind large appliances hoovered and mopped where possible
- Kettle, toaster and microwave descaled and cleaned
- Tiles and grout scrubbed
Bathrooms (deep)
- Full descale of taps, shower head, screen and tiles
- Grout scrubbed, mould treatment applied where needed
- Sealant inspected and cleaned
- Extractor fan cover removed, cleaned and refitted
- Radiator dusted top and bottom
- Skirting boards and door frames wiped
- Behind the toilet cleaned
Living areas and bedrooms (deep)
- Skirting boards, doors and frames wiped
- Light switches, plug sockets and door handles cleaned
- Ceiling and coving cleared of cobwebs
- Radiators dusted
- Behind and under furniture vacuumed
- Curtains dusted or shaken, blinds wiped
- Wardrobes and drawers emptied, wiped inside
- Windows cleaned inside

- Carpet edges and corners deep vacuumed
How long does each take?
| Home size | Regular clean | Deep clean |
|---|---|---|
| 1-bed flat | 1.5 to 2 hours | 4 to 5 hours |
| 2-bed home | 2 to 2.5 hours | 5 to 6 hours |
| 3-bed home | 2.5 to 3 hours | 6 to 8 hours |
| 4-bed home | 3 to 4 hours | 8 to 10 hours |
Deep cleans usually need a team of two cleaners because of the workload. Regular cleans are typically one cleaner.
How much does each cost?
Full pricing is in our Leeds cleaning cost guide, but the quick comparison:
| Home size | Regular clean | Deep clean |
|---|---|---|
| 1-bed flat | £30 to £50 | £150 to £180 |
| 2-bed home | £40 to £60 | £180 to £230 |
| 3-bed home | £50 to £75 | £230 to £290 |
| 4-bed home | £70 to £100 | £290 to £350 |
Which one do you actually need?
Book a regular clean if:
- Your home is generally tidy but you don't have time to keep on top of it
- You want ongoing help with the day-to-day (hoovering, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen)
- You want to book weekly, fortnightly or monthly
- You've had a deep clean recently and want to maintain that standard
Book a deep clean if:
- It's been more than 6 months since a professional clean
- You've just moved in and want a fresh start
- You've had builders or decorators in and there's dust everywhere
- You're preparing to host family or a big event
- Christmas is coming and you want the whole house sparkling
- You're putting the house on the market or preparing for viewings
- You've had a new baby, or you're about to
- The oven, extractor or bathroom grout hasn't been touched in a while
Book an end of tenancy clean if:
You're moving out and want your deposit back. This is a specialist deep clean tailored to letting agent inspections. See our end of tenancy checklist for the full detail.
Can a regular clean turn into a deep clean over time?
Yes, if you book regular cleans often enough. Weekly and fortnightly regulars keep the home in such good condition that a full deep clean is only needed once a year. Monthly regulars usually need a deep clean every 6 to 9 months.
The most cost-effective combination
Our most popular setup for busy family homes in Leeds and Wetherby:
- Book an initial deep clean to reset the property
- Follow up with fortnightly regular cleans to maintain
- One more deep clean 12 months later, then repeat
You get the fresh-home feeling twice a year plus a home that stays tidy in between, all for less than most families spend on takeaways in a month.
